Why People Avoid Counselling
Each of these reasons is a fear – one that proper counseling will address. The counselor and individual need only set goals for the counseling to ensure that the work being done helps overcomes
the obstacles we create for ourselves, and that prevent us from
moving forward.
A few of the reasons people have used to avoid engaging in counseling, or therapy:
- I might fail
- It might not help
- It’s too much money to spend on myself
- I’m scared to find out the truth about myself
- Its’ too late
- What’s the point, why bother
- I tried before and couldn’t fix it
- I’m ashamed that I have to get help
- I can fix it myself if I work hard enough
- I’m ashamed of what’s happened to me, or about what I might have done
- I honestly don’t believe it can be fixed, I don’t think I can feel any better
